Otters are such playful animals. It seems they have no cares at all. That is what makes them a charming subject for an applique pattern. There are six otters and a fish in this pattern featuring raw edge applique technique, some easy hand embroidery and beading.
They are set in a river scene with freehand cut mounds of rocks on the river bed. The water is embellished with "crystal" (clear iridescent) glass beads and silk ribbon weeds. The otters and fish have "iris" (black iridescent) glass seed beads for eyes. The fish are silver metallic tricot backed fabric, which doesn't ravel. The bellies and cheeks of the otters are lighter in color which are achieved by scribble stitching in off white thread. The finished quilt has 2.5" borders and measures 31" wide and 30" long.
