Our designer and founder, Debora Konchinsky, graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fabric Design from Philadelphia College of Art (now called University of the Arts), Philadelphia, PA, with an award for Outstanding Achievement. She started quilting in 1977, and teaching in 1978. That year she began to specialize in machine appliqué animal designs while she was a docent at the Columbus Ohio Zoo. It wasn't until she moved back to Pennsylvania in 1987, that she became aware that her style of quilting was so different from the rest of the world. In 1989, she published her first pattern, with the help of Barbara Spittler, the owner of Grandmother's Patches, a now defunct quilt shop in Eagle PA, and as they say, the rest is history... |

Debora's husband, Paul Konchinsky, is our Marketing Mavin. He graduated Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science, Philadelphia, PA (now called Philadelphia University) in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Marketing and Management. He is the perfect compliment for Debora's artistic skills He takes care of the production and inventorying of all the patterns she creates. He also lends his experience in marketing their products. In his spare time, he arranges for all the flights, rental cars, and hotels involved in the 20+ shows a year they participate in every year. Paul has more than 20 years' experience in the restaurant industry. He is the one preparing meals when we are home. One ignorant and rude woman at a show commented that Paul was a "kept man". |

Patches died in January 2007 at the age of 19.
We adopted Patches from an animal rescue called "One-By-One" in the New Smithville, PA area when she was nine years old. |

We adopted Cali (short for Calico, as in fabric and cat) in December 1999. She was born in August 1999. That makes her a Leo, like Debora, Paul, and their son, Marc! |

This is Polly Esther at seven months old on December 18, 2001. She has moved right in and established her place in the group. You can see why I thought she was a raccoon hiding in the bushes outside a restaurant in Greensboro, NC, where we rescued her. |

Wooly was brought to us by the poor cats who live outside, on July 9, 2000. He looks like one of their relatives since they are also black and white. Wooley ate a thread and it got caught in his intestine. We had to have him put down in September 2001. |

We adopted Scrappy, our strawberry blonde cat, on Labor Day 1999, when he appeared at our back door with a huge gash on his hind leg, very skinny, but affectionate. Debora invited him in. He lived in the studio for a week while he recovered and ate like a pig. He decided that he didn't ever want to be hungry again. He had feline leukemia when we took him in at age five. He died in August, 2001. That night we found Polly and adopted her, fleas and all.
